The Asian Development Bank will support green and inclusive growth in the People’s Republic of China, its president Takehiko Nakao has said.

Speaking after meeting China’s finance minister, Lou Jiwei, and other senior officials, he said: ‘ADB looks forward to particularly focusing on innovative projects, and supporting more environmentally sustainable and inclusive development.

‘The partnership, including knowledge work and co-financing, will also further benefit the Asia and Pacific region.’

Under its country partnership strategy with China, ADB has aligned its priorities with the country’s 12th five-year plan, in particular to promote socially inclusive development and environmental protection.

From 2013 to 2015, ADB has programmed $4.21bn in assistance to the country. The main areas to be supported are urban development, water supply and sanitation, and transport.

More than 90% of ADB lending is aimed at the less developed western and central regions.
