Indonesia launches data transparency portal

8 Sep 14
The Indonesian government has launched an initiative to encourage more data transparency in the country.

Portal Data Indonesia went live on September 5 and has been developed in response to public demand for easily accessible official government data. A total of 23 institutions, including two regional governments will public around 700 datasets that can be accessed through the portal. Topics covered include the economy, education, healthcare and procurement.

The World Bank has backed the Indonesian government in developing the portal.

‘Providing government data online is an excellent first step, and efforts must continue to ensure that the information is up-to-date and adds value,’ said Rodrigo Caves, World Bank country director for Indonesia.

‘The World Bank welcomes this initiative. It is evidence that government and civil society can collaborate closely.’

The Indonesian government believes the portal will strengthen other public service innovations, including Satu Layanan (one stop information for services), Satu Pemerintah (one government) and Satu Peta (one map).
