DFID and the government of Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding at the Nepalese Ministry of Finance yesterday, confirming the UK’s support for the country’s Evidence for Development (E4D) Programme.

The Nepalese ministry of finance said the aim of E4D is to strengthen the culture of evidence use in Nepal, in particular to improve evidence-based policy and decision making, to ensure that the country’s poorest people are more effectively targeted with public funds and support.

The country’s National Planning Commission, Central Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development will implement the programme, which runs until December 2019.

The Ministry of Finance said E4D supports Nepal’s goals in terms of implementing the sustainable development goals and graduating from least developed country status by 2022.
