South Africa launches Municipal Money data site

26 Oct 16

South Africa’s National Treasury has launched the Municipal Money open local government budget data website.

This will provide citizens with comparable, verified information on the financial performance of each municipality to promote transparency and engagement through the ‘demystification’ of information on local authority spending.

South Africa’s ministers seek to stimulate involvement in local governance and encourage citizens to become involved in oversight, transparency and accountability.

Municipal Money is designed for users or without a financial background, and caters for both those seeking basic information and people prepared to use datasets.
