ACOA gets underway in Uganda

The fourth African Congress of Accountants (ACOA) opened in Kampala, Uganda today, with a focus on transforming Africa’s economies through improved accountancy and accountability.

The four-day event will include contributions from accounting and finance professionals, tax experts, policy and standards setters and representatives of professional accountancy organisations.

CIPFA is acting as a bronze sponsor for the event and David Watkins, chair of CIPFA's Accounting and Auditing Standards Panel, will address the congress on how the professionalisation of public sector accountants can enhance service delivery. 

Other speakers include Rachel Grimes, president of the International Federation of Accountants, and Asmaâ Resmouki, president of the Pan African Federation of Accountants.

The congress will be opened by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, president of the Republic of Uganda, and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, former chair of the African Union Commission, will give the keynote address.
