European inflation remains stable

Annual inflation in the whole EU is stable at 1.5%, and at 1.3% in the eurozone, the Eurostat statistical body of the EU has said in its monthly update for July.

Both were stable compared with June’s figures but well ahead of the 0.2% inflation recorded by both in July 2016.

Lithuania had the highest inflation rate at 4.1%, followed by Estonia at 3.9% and the UK and Latvia (both 2.6%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were in Ireland (-0.2%), Cyprus (-0.1%) and Bulgaria and Finland (both 0.6%).

Compared with June 2017, annual inflation fell in four states, remained stable in eight and rose in 16.

Eurostat said the largest upward impacts on annual inflation came from accommodation services (+0.10 percentage points), package holidays (+0.06pp) and air transport (+0.05pp),

The greats downward impacts were in telecommunication (-0.11pp), vegetables (-0.05pp) and fruit (-0.04pp).
