Ishaq Dar, finance minister since 2013, has been charged with ‘amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income’.

Dar has for three weeks failed to show up to court hearings set up by the National Accountability Bureau, prompting a judge to issue a warrant, local media reported.

The bureau said Dar’s assets were “disproportionate to his known sources of income for which he could not reasonably account for”.

The government official is said to be receiving medical treatment in London and has pleaded not guilty.

Dar was expected to file an application before the court seeking an exemption from personal attendance after the court ordered that he appeared on November 14, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported.

The NAB had registered cases of corruption and money laundering against the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his family members and the finance minister.

Sharif was indicted over the allegations linked to property in London, opening a trial that could see him and his daughter jailed.
