CIPFA Development chair to lead committee working to improve PFM in Asia Pacific

CIPFA’s Alan Edwards has been appointed as chair of a committee working to improve public financial management in the Asia Pacific region.

He will lead the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants’ public sector financial management committee, having worked with the organisation since 2011.

CAPA has existed since 1957, and it currently represents 33 professional accounting organisations that operate in or have an interest in the Asia Pacific region.

These organisations, based in 24 jurisdictions, represent two million professionally qualified accountants, nearly two-thirds of the world’s total.

CIPFA has been a member for the past six years, a period during which CAPA has focused its work on the accountancy profession’s role in improving public financial management.

Edwards, who also chairs CIPFA Development, will lead the committee’s work until the end of 2023.

“Alan has contributed towards CAPA and the accountancy profession more broadly for many years,” said CAPA chief executive Brian Blood.

“The appointment reflects the board’s confidence that Alan will successfully lead and enhance CAPA’s contribution to improving public sector financial management.”

The committee was formed in 2012 to take the lead on CAPA’s financial management work, both regionally and for the benefit of the accountancy profession globally.
