IPSASB seeks nominations for advisory group

9 Dec 15

The International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board has established a consultative advisory group (CAG) to enable dialogue with key stakeholders such as governments, parliamentarians, audit bodies and regulators.

IPSASB is calling for nominations for representatives from public and private sector organisations affected by the work of the board to sit on the CAG, which will be chaired by Thomas Müller-Marqués Berger, EY’S global head of international public sector accounting and the Federation of European Accountants (FEE).

IPSASB chair Andreas Bergmann said the formation of the CAG “marks an important milestone” in further strengthening the board’s governance arrangements and its standard-setting processes by enabling additional dialogue with key stakeholders.

The CAG will advise the IPSASB on its strategy and work plan, its projects and on matters relevant to its standard-setting activities.

IPSASB is particularly interested in hearing nominations for people who use public sector financial reports and representatives of governments and other public sector entities.

Nominations are also encouraged from parliamentarians, public sector auditors, regulators, NGOs and other regional and international organisations.

Müller-Marqués Berger will chair the CAG during its initial meetings until the CAG can elect a chair from its own membership. He said he welcomes the “important challenge” ahead.

Incoming IPSASB chair Ian Carruthers added that IPSASB is “fortunate” to have Müller-Marqués Berger who is a “leader in the field of public sector accounting” and “deeply involved in key initiatives” such as the European Public Sector Accounting Standards project.

Nominations for representatives will remain open until 19 February 2016. Further information regarding nominations is available on the IPSASB website.

The inaugural meeting for the CAG is provisionally planned for June 2016 in Toronto, Canada.
